for morton o’leary (2016), is a reflection of Morton Feldman’s Durations through the prism of traditional Irish music. The music is driven by a very free melody, loosely based on the notion of a traditional slow air with long ametrical phrases and subtle ornamentation. As per Feldman’s work, there is a series of chords that process at the discretion of the performer. This piece is dedicated to my colleague Dr Martin O’Leary whose love of Feldman and Dublin gave this piece both its inspiration and title.
